Program Overview

The 14-week medical assisting program combines online coursework with weekly in-person lab sessions and clinical rotations starting in the third week. With 252 total training hours, the program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a medical assistant role. Training focuses on both administrative and clinical tasks, including preparing patients for exams, collecting specimens, and performing basic medical procedures.

Attendance is critical, and students are required to adhere to strict policies to remain in the program. The program limits absences to 5 days of classroom instruction and 2 clinical days. Exceeding this limit results in dismissal from the course, though students may be eligible to retake it on a case-by-case basis.

Curriculum and Educational Goals

The curriculum includes core competencies such as medical terminology, patient care techniques, phlebotomy, and clinical procedures. By the end of the program, students will be prepared to:

  • Understand the role of a medical assistant.
  • Demonstrate entry-level medical assistant skills.
  • Provide safe, professional, and competent patient care.
  • Sit for national certification exams.

Students are trained to work in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinics. The program emphasizes professionalism, patient safety, and a commitment to high standards in healthcare.

Instruction and Facilities

Good Nursing & Medical Training was founded in 2013 by Registered Nurse Angela Goodridge, whose extensive background includes nursing education, clinical instruction, and healthcare leadership. Students benefit from small class sizes, which allow for more personalized instruction and hands-on training. Classes are led by experienced healthcare professionals, including registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.

Prerequisites

To enroll, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Provide proof of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Complete a TB screening, drug test, and background check within specified timeframes.
  • Hold a valid CPR BLS/First Aid certification (cannot be completed online).
  • Show proof of Hepatitis B vaccination.
  • Submit a government-issued ID, Social Security card, and updated resume.

Attendance Policies

Strict attendance is required to ensure successful completion of the program. Students may not miss more than 5 classroom days or 2 clinical days. Tardiness is also tracked, with 3 tardies equating to 1 absence. These policies aim to instill professionalism and reliability, which are essential in healthcare.
